AustCham CEO & Executive Director Interviewed by Xinhuanet
CEO and Executive Director of AustCham Beijing, Nick Coyle, recently spoke with Xinhuanet during his visit to Singapore for the 8th Future China Global Forum 2017.
Mr. Coyle foresees the Belt and Road Initiative as providing a platform to facilitate communications between nations, and offering a means for nations to develop closer ties through economic and trade cooperation. It is expected the Initiative will provide Australian companies with unprecedented opportunities through collaborations between China and Australia in the field of engineering, construction, consulting, banking and other industries.
When speaking of the future of Sino-Australia relations, Mr. Coyle remains optimistic, stating that China is the largest trading partner for Australia and represents a major source of investment. Equally, Australia plays a key role in China’s economic development. Following the signing of the China-Australia Free Trade Agreement, bilateral trade between the two countries has surged. Foreign investment has been made easier by the Australian government’s introduction of policies to streamline investment procedures.
China is becoming an attractive option for overseas investment with its relatively fair and free trade environment. However, the competitiveness of the Chinese market has put small and medium foreign enterprises under increasing pressure.
