Member Event | Australia@BeijingDesignWeek – Main Feature “Songlines”

09-27-18 @ 5:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Australian Ambassador to China, Her Excellency Ms Jan Adams AO PSM invites you to a VIP preview of the Australian feature exhibition at Beijing Design Week walking through a Songline.

This year is the fourth Australia@BJDW and our main feature this year is Songlines, a unique Australian immersive experience that recreates what a ‘songline’ is: “one of many paths that cross Australia, paths made from a union between geographic space, cultural storytelling and identity from Australian Aboriginals and their cosmological vision”. This exhibition is an extraction of the Songlines exhibition presented by the National Museum of Australia, receiving awards and rave reviews.

Songlines: Tracking the Seven Sisters is the first exhibition of its kind, attempting to tell in an exhibition space an Indigenous founding narrative by using indigenous ways of passing on knowledge.
The project was inspired by an investigative collaboration between senior custodians of Martu country and Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) and Ngaanyatjarra lands of Australia’s Central and Western deserts, along with the National Museum of Australia, the Australian National University and other partners. There will also be multiple exhibits from Griffith University (Queensland College of Art).
