Post Event | Future Business Leaders | Crouching Tiger or Hidden Dragon: Structural Flaws Behind China’s Phenomenal Growth

AustCham Beijing, in conjunction with Australia-China Youth Association (ACYA), Australia-China Young Professional Initiative (ACYPI) and Hatchery, the event was held on the structural flaws behind China’s phenomenal growth, Friday 14 April.

Providing engaging insights, guest speaker Chun Him demonstrated why the current financial path is unsustainable and the recent measures the Chinese government has proposed to address these long-term structural issues. Chun Him also presented some of the risks ahead and show in a world of capital outflows and financial liberalization, the economy’s funding structure may not hold up to support the old growth model.

This was followed by a great turn out and some friendly and familiar faces at the post event networking drinks.

Chun Him is an Economist working for the Australian Treasury in Beijing Embassy Post. His main responsibilities include monitoring macroeconomic developments in the PRC with a focus on the financial system, credit allocation, and monetary policy. Chun Him holds a Masters of Finance from Queen’s University from Canada and is currently enrolled in the CFA program. He has previously worked for the Bank of Canada assisting to understand the impact on monetary aggregates and credit measures on the Canadian economy. Chun Him is passionate in learning about financial systems and funding structures and is happy to engage with anyone to learn and discuss such topics.
